Recipe: Flaxseed & Marshmallow Root Gel

Balanced Blessings everyone.

Today I want to share one of my favorite DIY recipes for an everyday product that I know everyone else can’t live without either; hair gel!

I don’t know about you guys but I lived for my Eco Styler, nothing got my hair to curl the way it did. But the further I came along into my holistic journey I began to cut out hair products that were not handmade or organic and natural.

After a few years of dabbing here and there in different hair gel recipes I finally found the one that works best for me! This is a STRONG HOLD gel that is great for my 4a hair!

The biggest thing for me is that using this gel I am able to see the benefits for my hair versus using the other gels. Other gels would dry my hair and my edges out, where as the marshmallow root and flaxseed aid to my hair and scalp!

Tools Needed:

  • – Pot
  • – Source of Heat

** youtube video will be at the bottom of this article

Step One: Bless Your Space

This is the most important step! Within this time you want to make sure you set up and get everything in order.

Clean Up Your Workspace – Make sure you have a nice space to work and that it is CLEAN and free of clutter.

Grab Material – You want to make sure you have everything you need right in front of you! Nothing is more annoying than having to run back and forth looking for things. What I like to do is grab a laundry basket and go from room to room grabbing what I need. This saves me time and a headache.

Cleanse Your Space – Now that you have everything you want to make sure to CLEANSE your space. Take this time to set the mood for what you’re making. Play some good music, light up an incense, get in a good mood yourself! I like to smudge my areas and then make sure that I am mentally good. I never make anything if I am in a bad mood or angry.

Step Two: Make Marshmallow Tea

Bring 16oz water to boil. Add marshmallow root and let it boil with the lid on for 10 minutes. Strain

Step Three: Make Marshmallow Gel

You’re going to slowly mix in the guar gum. You want to do it slowly because it will clump up on you. Please refer to the video to see how I did it, it’s a flick of the wrist. Once you have that mixed strain that gel and set it to the side.

Step Four: Make Flaxseed Gel

Bring 16oz water to boil and add the flaxseeds. Boil for no longer than 9 mins! Strain this mixture

ASAP into a separate bowl. This method is much easier than using the stocking cap method.

Step Five: Combine!

Now that you have your gels and oils ready just whisk it all together adding the vitamin e and essential oil. Store it in a fridge so it can set before use and keep it stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or until it smells bad!

There you have it! Your very own flaxseed and marshmallow root gel!

Hope you guys enjoy and if you have any questions or concerns please let me know!
